Edward Feeney died on 03 June 1893
It's 125 years since Edward Feeney died at 64 Cooper Street, Surry Hills, NSW. Edward was "our" Jane's older brother. He was born about 1829 in Granard, County Longford, Ireland and came to Australia in August 1843 with his younger brother, Thomas. Here they joined their mother, Jane snr, and sisters, Eliza and Ann. Edward and Thomas worked as boot makers in the inner city - a trade that many of their male descendants followed.
In 1853, Edward married Margaret McCabe at St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney. In 1849, Margaret arrived with "our" Jane on the Digby. She was also an "Irish Famine Orphan". Edward and Margaret had 8 children. Their first, Edward James, died as an infant. The other children were still living at the time of Edward's death and are shown in his funeral notice - William, Edmund, Matilda, Isabella (wife of Thomas Wilson), Alfred, Amelia (wife of Robert Walton) and Selina. Edward is buried at Rookwood General Cemetery (Plot Zone B BBB Grave 2045).
Ivy Olga Quinn (nee Hudson) born on 03 June 1900
It's 118 years since Ivy Olga Hudson was born in Hickey's Creek near Kempsey, NSW. Ivy was the daughter of William Edward Hudson and Susanah Tester. She married Henry James (Harry) Quinn, "our" Jane's grandson, and they had eight children - James, Glen, Earl, Geoffrey, Cecil, Marie, Lloyd and Rex. Harry died on 27 July 1957 and Ivy on 02 January 1987. They're buried in Kempsey West General Cemetery. Here's a photo of Ivy with her children which has been kindly provided by her daughter, Marie.
Richard Ratcliffe Smithard died on 03 June 1948
It's 70 years since Richard Smithard died at Punchbowl, NSW. Richard was born in 1869 at Braidwood, NSW. On 05 March 1892, Richard married Ann (Annie) Feeney at St Peter's Anglican Church, St Peters, NSW. Annie was daughter of Thomas and Julia Feeney and "our" Jane's niece. Annie was born on 25 November 1870 and died on 26 June 1935 at Marrickville. Richard and Annie had 9 children - Annie Jane, Gladys May, Julia, Thomas Richard, Emily, Ivy (died as an infant), Richard Ratcliffe, William (died as an infant) and Ethel May. Annie and William are buried at Rookwood Church of England Cemetery. We're still looking to contact descendants of Richard and Annie.
John Thomas (Jack) Quinn died on 03 June 1952
It's 66 years since John Thomas (Jack) Quinn's death at Petersham, NSW. Jack was born on 09 December 1891 at Kempsey to Thomas Francis Quinn and Annie Seward and was the second of their 12 children. Jack was the grandson of "our" Jane. After serving in the First World War, Jack moved from Kempsey to Sydney where he remained until his death. He's buried at Botany Catholic Cemetery, NSW.
Amelia May Walton (nee Feeney) also died on 03 June 1952
It's 66 years since the death of Amelia May Walton (nee Feeney). Amelia was born in 1867 and was the seventh of the eight children of Edward Feeney and Margaret McCabe. Yes, she died 59 years after the death of her father at the age of 85. Amelia was "our" Jane's niece. Amelia married Robert Walton in 1889. The marriage was registered at Newtown. Amelia and Robert had 3 children. The oldest, Florence Matilda, died as an infant. They had two sons, William Edward and Sydney. Sydney died in October 1941 leaving a wife and three children. Amelia's husband, Robert, died in April 1947. Amelia and Robert are buried at Woronora Cemetery, Sutherland. Here's a transcript of Amelia's will where she leaves her home to her son, William, money to Jack (the son of Sydney) and her possessions to William, her daughters-in-law, Hilda and Mary, her granddaughters, Frieda, Lannie and Marge and great-granddaughter, Wendy. We're still looking to contact descendants of Amelia and Robert.
