James and Richard Seward - The last of Jane Feeney's children

Image
As we arrive at the final post on Jane Feeney's children from her marriages to John Killion and Thomas Seward, we're presented with a mystery. How many sons were born to Jane and Thomas in 1873?  Last week, a few "cousins" had a sneak preview of my dilemma in untangling this mystery….. Our current thinking is that two sons, James and Richard, were born to Jane and Thomas around 05 July 1873.  Richard was “weak” from birth and died on 19 July 1873.  James became “weak” around the time of Richard’s death and died on 02 August 1873. Family of Thomas and Jane Seward - Updated 21 June 2017 Please, only read on if you’re interested in hearing about the 26 year long search that’s lead to this view! A search of the NSW Registry of Births, Death and Marriages shows that, in 1873, two males died in Port Macquarie whose parents were Thomas and Jane- James Seaward - Registration number 6475/1873  Richard Seaward - Registration number 6479/1873

Thanks for your posts and information as we learn more about the children of John and Jane Killion. We’ve now covering the children of Thomas and Jane Seward. Then, we’re onto stories of convicts, “Irish famine orphans”, absconders and a lot more…..and it's all in the family! Thomas Killion and Mary Jane Wood married on 09 June 1886 - 131 years ago today…. We have a photo of Mary Jane but do you think we’ve identified a photo of Thomas? The left hand photo is from a collection held by Helen and Karen, descendants of Thomas and Mary Jane.  Thomas and Jane's oldest child, George (1886 to 1932), is shown in photos to the right. They're from the collection of Martyn, George's grandson.   Please post your comments about our unidentified young man:- Do you think he's "a Killion"? Could it be another photo of George or one of his siblings taken in the early 1900s? Could it be a photo of Thomas, George's father, taken around 1880? Finally, if yo

Do you think we've found a photo of my great-grandparents, Francis Gersbach and Margaret Killion from the early 1890s? On the left is a photo from the collection held by Helen and Karen, descendants of Thomas Killion and Mary Jane Wood. On the right are my photos of Frank (circa 1890) and Margaret (May 1915). You know what I'm hoping.... Please let us know what you think? Again, if you have any old photos, identified or unidentified, that could be Killion, Quinn or Hand family members, please share them.

Margaret Gersbach (nee Killion) - 1862 to 1919

Margaret Killion is the fifth and last child of John and Jane Killion. I'm interested in our Killion, Quinn and Hand family history because Margaret is my great-grandmother and, until 18 months ago, I knew very little about her life. Slowly I'm gathering fragments of information.... With only six descendants of Margaret surviving , we're the smallest branch of the family. On 10 February 1862, Margaret was born on "North Shore, Port Macquarie" - the site of the Killion land. On Margaret's birth registration, John shows his occupation as "Settler", aged 54 from Athlone, Ireland. While Jane is aged 30 from Wicklow, Ireland.  Margaret Killion - 11 May 1915 On 21 July 1864, John Killion died at their North Shore, Port Macquarie home  leaving Jane with 5 young children-   Edward John (Jack) - 9 years, 9 months, Rosanna (Rose) - about 8 years, Thomas - 7 years, 3 months, Mary Jane - 4 years, 9 months and  Margaret - 2 years, 3 months. Jane was about
